Sweet Details About Antalya Demre and Kas

One of the most visited places around Kaş is Demre... The reason for this is Lycia's most important and large Myra ancient city, Andriake, the most important part of the Hellenistic and Roman period, and St. Nicholas Church in Demre village with its heritage story. The ancient city of Myra gives goosebumps both with its architecture and its surviving monuments. The ancient theater of Myra is a very large amphitheater with a capacity of approximately 10 thousand spectators. Later, some renovations were made to this amphitheater and it was used as an arena.

The importance of the port of Adriake is not to be underestimated. In ancient times, the Mediterranean was a sheltered port for ships traveling on the west-east route. However, over time, it began to be printed by pirates and Arabs. The people living there could not prevent these invasions and the inevitable end was experienced.

The necropolis of the ancient city of Myra is one of the most magnificent works that have survived.

A footnote for those who do not know what a necropolis is: In archaeological cities, the necropolis is the place where mass graves are found. Today they are called rock tombs.

Where does Demre depend?

Demre is a district of Antalya province with a population of approximately 26,000, located in the Mediterranean Region in the south of Turkey. The district of Demre is adjacent to the districts of Antalya, Kaş in the west, and Finike in the east.

The world-famous church of Saint Nicolas is located in the center of the village of Demre. The man known as Santa Claus was the archbishop of Myra. Saint Nicolas was born in Patara in 300 AD. After his education in Rome, he returned to Myra and continued his life as archbishop there.

At that time he devoted his life especially to doing good to children and hence evolved into Santa Claus these days. He also had mercy on the girls who did not have their dowry and could not get married, and would drop golden bags from their chimneys. This is where the chimney legend came from. After Saint Nicolas died, his bones were stolen from Bari by the Italians and smuggled into the Vatican. You can see a few bones left behind in the church's museum. This basilica-planned church is dated to the 4th century AD. Every year hundreds of Orthodox pilgrims visit this place to be. It also hosts the Santa Claus festival on December 5 every year.

Here is the short story of Demre… Can those who come to Demre pass without stopping by Kaş? We don't think so... Then let's talk about what it would be like to wake up to a beautiful morning in Kaş...

The Best Mornings in Kas

Even if you are not a morning person, wake up early when you come to Kaş. Unlike in the city, you won't need an alarm clock or a strong morning coffee to start your day here. Do you know why? Because you are in Kaş! The air you breathe, the chirping of the birds you hear, the blue sky you open your eyes to, the call from the clear sea, and the silence of nature will be your motivation. Just get out of bed, wash your face, brush your teeth and drink a glass of water. You are ready to take to the streets from now on.

Early Bird in Kaş

Always keep yourself ready and don't forget to take your book, maybe a pen, notebook and swimming towel with you. It is enough to make things more practical by wearing your swimsuit under your clothes. You can decide to jump into the sea from anywhere at any time. Do not forget that you are on holiday in Kaş, the pearl of the Mediterranean coast. And we can recommend you to have your headphones with you to listen to music almost every morning. However, we recommend nature's most gentle and calming melody. It is truly a wonderful and inexpensive morning therapy.

An Ordinary Day in Kas

The first option for your early morning experience can start with a walk along the new marina. You will be amazed by the calmness of the sea, the reflection of the sleeping boats in the sea, the colorful flowers, and the wandering ducks. You can also take amazing photos. Other than that, swimming at the marina beach will be great. The water, which impresses with its view, gives peace with its warmth and cleanliness. The taste and feeling of swimming in the morning are priceless!

Küçük Çakıl Beach Area

The street of the small pebbled area hosts hotels and hostels on one side, and the sea platforms of hotels by the sea. If you climb up the main street that leads from the main square to the small pebble beach area, you can choose the harbor road, which enjoys the sea, the lighthouse, and the view on your right. From here there are banks or rocks to sit on. It will be very valuable to read the memories that you wrote down in a small notebook here. You can swim in the small cove at the beginning of the small pebble beach area, but be prepared! The sea temperature is the coldest here. You can see the icy appearance of turquoise and sometimes frozen seawater. As in many parts of Kaş, spring water flows into the sea in this region. This is the reason for the cold and icy appearance. We recommend you to swim on your back to watch the beautiful view of Kaş.

We are waiting for you this summer (and every summer) to fall in love with Kaş!
